India is a step back in time, to another place filled with thousands of year old traditions, magnificent monuments and bursting with vibrant colours, sounds and beautiful people.

I never even thought I would travel to India, it wasn’t even on my radar. The only thing I really knew about the destination was Holy Festival and the Taj Mahal. However, life has a funny way of working out and here I sit writing this at a hostel in the middle of India.

Impulsively, I booked a month trip to Rishikesh to learn a 200 hours teaching course. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I know we all go through those periods of life where we are lost, stuck or at rock bottom. This was definitely a moment for me. However my month in Rishikesh has turned my outlook on life around, truly, I never thought I would be the kind of person to say that. Based in just a beautiful oasis, shielded from the craziness of Indian cities, you will find peace.

I was one of the lucky ones that got the greatest group of people on my course, they ended up being more like family. Together we went through one of the toughest, mentally and physically, months of our lives. The yoga course taught us that there is more to yoga than just exercise, in fact, that is only 5% of it. It opens your mind, your heat and your soul. Apart from the yoga course, the city is an escape from reality, with delicious restaurants, yoga schools, history and more.

After leaving my beloved Rishikesh, I am now making my way through the middle of India. Like always, I have no plans past tomorrow, only deciding which way to go from the people we meet along the way. So far we have seen palaces, bazaars, rooftop gardens, been to an elegant and crazy club and eaten some amazing food along the way.

India I am impressed, and I am an only halfway through my trip. I can’t wait to see what lies in store along with my journey.
